We want to make sure you’re the right fit, so below we have detailed some hints and tips to help you along the way. Here are some of the details of our recruitment process and the kind of things you can expect.

To apply for a vacancy, we would firstly ask you to create a profile with Tesco Underwriting. Here you will find the option of creating a profile using one of your other online accounts. You can choose from Linked In, Facebook or a Google+ profile or you can set one up from scratch if you’d prefer.

Once you’ve created this profile you can save it and log into it at any time in the future.

Now you’re logged in, you can begin your application!

The application process should take about 5 – 10 minutes and we’ll ask you to upload a current CV, and an optional covering letter.

Once we’ve received your application, one of our recruitment team will review your CV, your skills and experience.

If we’d like to progress you’re application, the next steps will depend on the type of role you’ve applied for. We might schedule in a short telephone interview, organise a face to face interview or we might even invite you to attend an assessment centre.

If we’ve invited you to a telephone interview we will book in a convenient time to have a conversation. This is an opportunity for us to find out a bit more about you. We’ll ask you things around your previous experience and talk to you about the role in a bit more detail. Generally, a telephone interview will take about half an hour, but this is also a good time to ask any questions you have too. We’ll let you know the next steps after the call.

The interview process is all about you! We know you’ll want to find out about us, as much as we want to find out about you. Our interviews are designed to give you the best opportunity to be able to talk comfortably about what you have done and what you are looking for, as well as who you are. All our interviews are competency based and have a combination of both behavioural and technical questions as we feel this gives you the best possible opportunity to tell us about your experience and skills.

Part of the assessment centre will be the interview, but we also include some other activities to see your skills in action. The exercises will be tailored to the role you’ve applied for and lets us see your skills in practice. Don’t worry, we’ll let you know what these activities are before you come in.

All roles in TU include the completion of some online tests. The tests are just another part of what we do to find out as much as we can about you…these are not to catch you out!

They are just another part of the process which helps us compare you to others doing a similar job. Typical assessments might be included to provide evidence of your ability, for example verbal and numerical reasoning. Depending on the role you’re applying for you might be asked to complete an assessment which helps us understand your work styles and preferences at work. We always include feedback from your tests in our feedback processes.

We usually can confirm the outcome of your application within a few days of you coming in to see us. We will always contact you regardless of outcome. If you are successful we will give you a call to give you the good news and to confirm all of the details of the offer and let you know what happens next.

If we offer you the role we need to carry out some ‘pre employment checks’. These include obtaining employment references, a Disclosure and Barring Service check (formally known as a Criminal Record Bureau check), and a financial record check.

We’ll also need to ensure that you’re eligible to work in the UK. We do these for everyone that joins our team in order to meet our regulatory responsibilities as well as a duty of care to our customers.
